Chapter 03
The Path of Dveikus
When presence deepens into cleaving
Pause opened the door. Presence walked us through. Now we step deeper — into the place where awareness becomes union. Where knowing becomes cleaving. This is dveikus.
וְאַתֶּם הַדְּבֵקִים בַּיהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם חַיִּים כֻּלְּכֶם הַיּוֹם
“And you who cleave to Hashem your G-d are all alive today.”
“Is it possible to cleave to the Shechinah? Is it not written, “For Hashem your G-d is a consuming fire”? Rather: cling to the sages and to their students.”
Dveikus is not an abstract state. It is lived through Torah, through His ways, through His people. Through action, word, and relationship.
“The soul has three garments: thought, speech, and deed. Through these garments it enclothes itself in the 613 mitzvos.”
Each mitzvah is not merely a command. It is a levush — a garment — through which the soul makes contact with the Infinite. Each thread is connection.
“Like a flame bound to a coal.”
The flame needs the coal to exist; the coal is transformed by the flame. This is what prayer is when it is fully alive: the soul needing Hashem, and something in the world being transformed by the meeting. Without that cling, the words are a body without a soul.
“When one prays with true kavana, the soul cleaves to Hashem. Each word becomes a channel for Divine light.”
צָמְאָה נַפְשִׁי לֵאלֹהִים לְאֵל חָי
“My soul thirsts for G-d, for the living G-d.”
This thirst is not a problem to be solved. It is the sign of a living soul. Dveikus is not escape. It is bringing Hashem into the world — into your voice when you speak, into your hands when you give, into your eyes when you truly see another person.
Ritual
Breath of Dveikus
- 1Sit quietly. Let your body settle.
- 2With each inhale, imagine drawing in Hashem's light — slowly, without forcing.
- 3With each exhale, whisper softly: Dveikus.
- 4Before Shemoneh Esrei, hold this: every word is a tzinor, a channel. Your soul is not reciting — it is rising.
Reflection
When have I felt closest to Hashem — in prayer, in nature, in loss, in joy?

Soul anchors
וְאַתֶּם הַדְּבֵקִים
“You who cleave to Hashem are alive.”
צָמְאָה נַפְשִׁי
“My soul thirsts for G-d.”
Even a small, steady flame warms the world. You do not need the blaze. You need the cling. That is the tamid — not the peak, the staying.
